The government will highlight the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings on in Leyte, Philippines by coming out with a commemorative coin to honor the World War II veterans who risked life and limb and even paid the supreme sacrifice. The Leyte Gulf Landings, designated then as A-Day marked the first step in the liberation of the Philippines, a historic event of great significance which started with the landing of 174,000 allied soldiers, in one of the most decisive battles of all times. The theme of the commemoration is "Peace: A Better World" to symbolize our unrelenting search for peace.
