The town of Pateros, although politically independent since , remained a visita of its mother parish of Pasig. The Pasig cura parroco, Augustinian Fray Santos Gomez Marafton supported the Pateros petition for ecclesiastical independence that was signed on by 25 Pateros petitioners headed by the incumbent gobernadorcillo Don Carlos de la Cruz. Manila Archbishop Juan Antonio de Zulaybar approved the petition through an Episcopal Decree he signed on . The Royal Vice Patron, Governor General Joseph de Jardoqui issued a Decree on creating the new and independent, Parroquia de San Roque de Pateros.
The Augustinian Fray Andres Vehil and the Filipino priest Don Mariano Pelaes were the first Pateros parish priests who started building the stone church using the architectural plan of Fray Santos Gomez Maranon. They also issued the sellooficial bearing the mark of Pateros Patron San Roque, which was its official seal until the end of the Spanish colonial period.
On this 200th year of its foundation, Rev. Fr. Roy M. Rosales, together with Pateros Mayor Joey C. Medina, and Ms. Nelia B. Flores, President of San Roque Parish Pastoral Council, through the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, issued a limited edition of this commemorative medallion that serves as a fitting remembrance of God's loving presence in the life and history of our beloved Parroquia de San Roque de Pateros. Deo Omnis Gloria.
