PNB COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL LITERATURE

PNB was originally established as a government bank in July 22, 1916, opening its office in the Masonic Temple, a prominent structure along historical Escolta, at the business artery in Binondo, Manila.

One hundred years of service excellence is an important milestone for a financial institution that started out as an agricultural bank that became the country's de facto central bank during the war, and then becoming an investment bank in 1955. In 1980, PNB became the "First Universal Bank" in the country. Its principal function was to receive deposits, grant short and long-term loans, rediscount bills, and open foreign credits in supporting efforts in nation building, as well as, address the unique needs of every Filipino, here and abroad. By 2007, PNB became 100% privatized.

As an instrument of economic development, the Bank led the industry through the years, pioneering several programs and services: the Dollar Remittance Program, the Masagana 99 Financing Program, the Bank on Wheels, and Bank on Wings Programs, and the first ever Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

Over the years, PNB has received numerous awards from various government institutions and award-giving bodies, affirming the Bank's well-managed operations and excellent service.

Today, a hundred years hence, the Philippine National Bank (PNB) is hailed as one of the country's largest private local commercial banks in terms of assets and deposits. It is a universal bank providing a full range of banking and other financial services to large corporate, middle market, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and retail customers.

Filipinos anywhere in the world have a bank they can lean on. With a wide array of competitive banking products and having 630 domestic branches, 910 ATMs strategically located nationwide and 76 branches and offices overseas, PNB is ready to serve the diverse needs of its huge clientele including more than 2 million depositors.

To proudly commemorate PNB's Century of Excellence from 1916 to 2016, the bank is issuing this Commemorative Medal featuring the original Masonic Iron Gate of PNB's first headquarters on the reverse side and PNB's Centennial logo on the obverse side.
