Obverse

His signature Missouri-made corn cob pipe is gripped by his teeth, an item frequently used by the General as a pointer. Reverse
The reverse features General MacArthur during the Second World War, as he leads his troops ashore on the island of Leyte in the Philippines on , beneath the quote "IN WAR THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VICTORY." These famous words were among a thirty-five minute farewell address the General delivered to Congress on . The inscription "1 oz. .999 FINE SILVER" curves below the image.

This silver bullion medal struck by the Intaglio Mint in Colorado is part of a series dedicated to legendary military leaders. The medal is an homage to Douglas MacArthur, who attained the rank of five-star General of the U.S. Army in . When the General retired from the Army in following fifty-two years of service, he had earned more than one hundred military decorations, which included the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, and Distinguished Service Cross Medals from the both the Army and the Navy.
