Celebrating 20 years of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) was established on pursuant to the provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution and
Republic Act No. 7653 known as
The New Central Bank Act of 1993. The BSP took over from the Central Bank of the Philippines, which was established on as the country’s central monetary authority.
The first 20 years of the BSP was fraught with challenges. Nevertheless, the BSP prevailed and has since established a successful track record of promoting stability in prices and in the banking industry -- two essential elements in ensuring sustained and balanced economic growth. That this was achieved against a backdrop of national, regional, and global challenges makes the BSP’s record of accomplishments quite remarkable.
To commemorate this milestone, the BSP made a limited edition overprint on uncut 100-piso NDS notes that feature former president Manuel A. Roxas. The choice is deliberate: he led the country’s recovery from the devastation of World War II, set the crafting of the nation’s first master economic plan, and initiated the drafting of the charter of the Central Bank of the Philippines.
The notes carry the overprint of the BSP’s 20th anniversary logo with the text “Wastong Pananalapi Tungo sa Kaunlaran (Appropriate Monetary Policy for Development).”
These notes celebrate our milestone and echo the nation’s aspirations for a better future as the BSP heeds the call of the times.
In ordinary times, we build and reinforce.
Amid challenges, we are steadfast and decisive.
In success, we celebrate and resolve to do even better.
